Fall Fun
Parents all week our class has learn different things about fall please bring in any items from home relating to our words of the day to share.

Story Time

“ I know It’s Autumn” by Eileen Spinelli

This book takes a simple look at all the things that tell a small child that Autumn is here. Pumpkin muffins, apple picking, cooler weather, hayrides and more all signal that the summer is gone and the fall has arrived.

Apples by Jacqueline Farmer
This is a great book full of interesting details about how apples grow, where they came from originally, varieties and more!  Parents please check this book out it is wonderful and will help our class on the field trip.


Leaf Man” by Lois Ehlert
Today’s book is about a leaf man who blows leaves away in the wind and readers are  taken past all sorts of animals like chickens and ducks, past rivers filled with fish and butterflies in the air. All are leaves pieced together to make these awesome images, some are obvious; some take concentration to see the animal among the leaves. Wonderful creative book to welcome the changing seasons.


“Patty’s Pumpkin Patch” by Teri Sloat

A great alphabet book and story in one. Readers follow a pumpkin patch from planting the seeds until after Halloween when they gather the seeds for the next planting.


A Friend for All Seasons by Julia Hubery

This book explains the change of seasons in a fun and easy to understand way for young children. Readers follow along with Robbie Raccoon as he notices the changes that are happening around his home, a big oak tree.
Small-Group Activities

Children will make their own leaf place mat.
A new word a day:
HALLOWEEN

Children will be creative and make their own spooky maze using thing from our dramatic play area/art & craft station.
A new word a day:
THANKGIVING

Our classroom will be making Thanksgiving collages.

A new word a day:
LABOR DAY

Labor day is a day set aside to honor people who work by giving them the day off. Children will be  creative and make their very own Labor Day thank you cards for the those who help them out daily in the community such as school helpers, libraries, bus drivers, and etc. Then we will take a community field trip throughout the neighborhood to pass out these very special cards.

SEASON

All this week this classroom has reviewed a special word of the day. Today’s word is stated above. We will learn more about our four seasons when we view a cool movie called “Brain Pop”. Children will learn why season come and go from Tim and Moby. They will show them how the tilt of the earth and it’s orbit around the sun affect the changing weather, explore why the northern and southern hemisphere have opposite seasons, and why tropical areas stay warm year-around.
Special Activities
(Field trips, special events, etc.)
“Clean up around my school day”

Children will enjoy a full fun outdoor activity. Each child will rake leaves around the center to help to keeps the school clean. Child-sized rakes can be provided.  Children will be encouraged to raking leaves in pile and bag.
Field Trip:
“Apple Orchard”

Children will take a visit to an apple orchard. Observe the apples being picked and processed. If possible let children pick their own apples from a tree.
“Neighborhood Walk”

Children will take a walk around the neighborhood when the leaves are at their peak of changing colors discuss differences in color and size.

Field trip:
“Pumpkin Patch”

Children will visit pumpkin patch

Notes: friendly reminders, changes, and children to observe….
This is a friendly reminder to all parents regarding any field trips your children will attend. Children are expected to arrive 30 minutes early before bus. The bus will be leaving at 9:00 a.m. and return by 2:00 p.m. All children must wear school t-shirts to attend trip. Please be on time.

“Blocks”
·          Counting blocks (1-10)
Child love to learn something new. Today we will count and sort blocks by colors.  Then the children will help chart their answers.
·          Building towers on number pad
Each child will build a tower using legos from the classroom. They will receive a number pad 1-10 and according to the number shown in each square will determine the number of legos that will be use to make their towers.

Dramatic Play
·          Fall wear
Warm clothes such as sweaters, coats, hats, and blankets will be available for the children to play dress up. This will indicate that cold weather is coming soon.
·          Costume fun
Halloween costumes will be added to the dramatic play area. Costumes will be purchase by teacher or school.
NOTES: If any parents want to donate old costumes that your children can no longer fit our classroom will be glad to accept.
Toys and Games
Dear parents,
All toys and games are self-selected by children during play time.
Daily free play: 11:00 a.m. to 11:25 a.m.

“To Do” list
“Decorating a pumpkin”
Shopping for  accessories needed:
·          1 bunch parlsey  (hair)
·          1 carrot (nose)
·          2 string beans (eyebrows)
·          2 radishes (eyes)
·          1 green pepper (ears)
·          1 large pumpkin (head)


Art
  • Pumpkin seed picture frame
Children will help dye pumpkin seeds many colors using food coloring. They well place the seeds with paste and paper on art table . The children then can create their own pictures frames.
  • Leaf rubbing
Children will gather leaves from outside, paper, and crayon for this creative activity. They will place several leaves under a sheet of paper, Next use the flat edge of any crayon to rub over the paper to make the leaves images appear. 

Library
Library time is a part of S.S.L.A. (self selected learning activity) daily. On Wednesday only children are allowed to check out new or used books to return by the following week.
NOTES: our classroom read-a-thon is daily shared at home with family and friends. Parent please do forget to log all book and pages your child read and return sheet back to school with their favorite book on Wednesday to share with class.
Library time: 10:20 a.m. to 10:35 a.m.



Discovery
“Decorating a pumpkin”
In carving or decorating a pumpkin with children they can discovery:
·          The physical properties of pumpkins: color, texture, size (both outside and inside).
·          Food category to which pumpkins belong.
·          What other forms pumpkins can be made into after scooped out of the shell. Where pumpkins grow (plant some of the seeds).
·          What size and shape to make features of the pumpkin, including eyes, nose, mouth, and what kind of expression to make.


Sand and Water
Children will play at the sand and water table using spoons, cups, funnels, Measuring cups, pumpkin seeds, water, and food coloring.
Music and Movement
“Dancing To New Tunes”
Children will make their instruments using any items throughout classroom. Then create different sounds to dance to.
Cooking
“Roasting pumpkin seeds”
Children will help soak pumpkin seeds for 24 hours in saltwater (1/4 cup of salt to 1 cup water). Then spread
Computers
Computer time is a part of S.S.L.A. (self selected learning activity).
Computer time: 10:30 a.m. to 10:55 a.m.
Outdoors
If the weather permits, children will go outside daily after evening snack.
 Outdoor time: 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Family/ Community involvement
“GIVING BACK”
Coming soon is our annual winter drive. Parents feel free to help in donate coats, clothes, boots, hats, gloves, scarves, and blankets. Thanks
